President's Message

I recently appointed a special committee, chaired by Hal Danowitz, to look into the possibility of obtaining survivor benefits for the spouse of a retiree who had married after retirement. We learned that the Retired Fire & Police Association has been working on the same goal, so our committee has met with their representatives to share information. See Ken Spiker’s article on page 2 for more on this proposal.

Our next event will be our Annual Invitational Golf Classic on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Alhambra Golf Course. Tom Stemnock and Phil Skarin put on a great event. An Awards Luncheon is held at the adjacent Almansor Court banquet room. Trophies are given to the best golfers, and many valuable door prizes are given out in a raffle. See the entry form on page 3.

Our great annual Picnic will be on Thursday, August 9, at The Grace E. Simons Lodge in Elysian Park catered by Chris & Pitts Barbeque with musical entertainment by Ron Black. Please call an officer on the Retiree’s Helpline for reservations at least a week ahead!

Please note that we now have a toll-free 800 number. You can call one of our officers from anywhere in the USA, thanks to Hal Danowitz. It’s on page 4.

This is my 13th year as your President. I have enjoyed working with all of the members of our Executive Board who are all doing a great job.

Ed Harding,

President
